BUTLERS’ RUN DOESN’T EASE THE PAIN

April 4, 2011

Pitt fans do not need to be reminded that the Butler/UConn matchup in the title game is a little strange. That’s right. The last two teams that beat the Panthers have gone all the way to the final game in Houston.
The question is, how is that supposed to make you feel? I’m not big on telling people how they should feel but let me say this about that. The Butler loss was bad and their run to the champiomnship game doesn’t change that. All it does say is that Pitt lost to very good, well-coached basketball team. It doesn’t change the fact that the Panthers had the ball with the lead in the final minute and didn’t even attempt a shot. That is inexcuseable.
Losing to UConn in the Big East Tourney doesn’t have any bearing on this whatsoever other than it exposes the fact that Pitt has lost its way in tournament play over the last couple seasons.
One and done is a mentality that Jamie Dixon needs to address. The regular season is just that and Dixon does it better than anyone. Unfortunately, in the grand scheme of things, that really doesn’t mean all that much.
The goal of a great regular season is to position yourself for a deep run in the NCAA tournament. Pitt’s regular season success earned them a number one seed. Goal attained. That also means you simply can’t get knocked out in your second tournament game. Sure it was against Butler and they have proven their metal. However, that’s not an excuse for the early exit.
I think Jamie Dixon is a great basketball coach and I would sign him to a lifetime contract right now. He will take Pitt to several Final Fours and win a National Title. Patience is a virtue and you need to enjoy the ride. Bigger and better things lie ahead for Dixon and the Panthers.

February 13, 2010

It is really difficult to put into words just how excited I am for this awesome opportunity. I have done radio my entire professional career and have really missed talking sports with you the last couple of years. Jon, Jim and myself will be wakin up early every day to inform and entertain. This is is what we love and what we do. Call, text,
e-mail and listen like your hair is on fire. This is going to be one wild ride and as crazy as it sounds, I’m the driver. Peace, love and double-stuff oreos.
